Saturday night I trekked with Elijah to a Burning Man theme camp fundraiser, Furrball. It was my second year performing aerial fabrics there and it’s one of the most fun parties I’ve worked at, hands down. The folks producing it do an incredible job making the event look and feel like you are actually on the playa. Terri/Roustie came too, and brought a salt-shaker full of playa dust to sprinkle on people’s heads.
The party was like an isolated block of the Esplanade (complete with dust, hookahs, rangers, spanking booths, art cars, large flaming sculptures, body painting stations, dozens of fire dancers, etc.). It’s quite a delight to fly for such an enthusiastic crowd. You could hear the flamethrowers firing from several blocks away. Extra fun side-note: Elijah is scared of the flamethrowers, he jumps about a foot into the air any time one goes off. Bringing him to his first BM is going to be so much fun.
We can’t wait for Burning Man. One day the Vespertine Circus will bring a big top out there, Red Nose District style.
