Weekend of non stop circus! Thursday most of the troupe went to see Ringling and Barnum & Bailey’s Circus show, Dragons, and spend time backstage talking to fellow clowns after the show.

Friday we had our show in Oakland, which was brilliant. It feels so good to be home again.

Saturday, Tilly, Elijah and I (with other friends of the troupe) saw a matinee performance of Humor Abuse at ACT - a one man show performed by the son of the founders of Pickle Family Circus, rich with clowning, juggling, hat tricks, staff spinning and more. Then Bethany, Elijah and I performed at an extravagant bachelorette party which Dr. Jack was house-managing.

At the end of Saturday night, Tilly, Bethany, Elijah and I headed out to the RBB&B train (pictured) and spent more time with our Big circus friends. Tonight? We perform in Oakland for the last time this season. Then we’re off working on the next show for four months. Whew! -Jezebel

Rollin’ rollin’ rollin’… Pictured: Elijah performing at Alberta Rose in Portland. Because it’s more interesting than photos of the freeway.

Today we hit the road again, Tilly Rex is bopping to Motown and we’re going to be in Bend, OR by 10pm tonight. A small town after being in Seattle for three days. Here’s to hoping that even in a smaller city, folks come out for our show! *knocking on wood* So far our smallest crowd has been 150, which is pretty darn cool. -Jezebel

Last night was magic. Today will be even better. Three cheers for outdoor shows! -Jezebel

Backstage at our last show of tour, Eli is pouting because Tilly is tormenting him. Ah, family. This is the hot-weather version of our makeup - whiteface melts too much, it’s pretty toasty in here at the California Stage, there’s no AC. Sacramento summers are a force to recon with, to be sure. Tonight, most of the troupe heads home, and tomorrow, the remaining follow suit after going to take down our tent, which still stands in citrus heights. What an amazing 17 days it has been. -Jezebel

Tonight after the show, something happened and everyone relaxed. Not an after party, per-se, but across the board, this felt like one of our best shows. Great setting, great audience, comfy temperature, very well rehearsed, Dr. Jack was super on the ball and more charming than ever.

Snippets: a 14 person group hug, while we sang Imagine after guests left, and light saber glow-frisbee dodgeball games.

To join in the experience: Just imagine Tipply the creepy-eyed stuffed frog is watching you pee through the cat-door in the bathroom door, and all the clowns are giggling, beers in hands, still covered in glitter and makeup from the show just outside. There are crickets and Mosquitos, and a soft bunny that shuffles around and lets you pick him up and cuddle. This is the chilliest bunny ever.

Inside jokes have formed, and we have our own language in the works. Everyone is still glowing from the night’s standing ovation, and giggling children. We are slowly eating the fancy chocolate bars a chocolatier in Bend gifted the troupe. Life is good. Stressful, exhausting, but very, very good. -Jezebel

Our first tent!

So, mind-numbingly sleepy. The tent is up, the rig is up, the backstage curtains are mostly hung, there’s partial seating and carpeted ground, and a mat under the aerial equipment, and more than half a raised-stage assembled. We ran a cue-to-cue and a speed through. Huge, huge thanks to our Sac crew, Kara and Steven in particular, who are headed here now to help more.

Next: lights and the rest of the stage. After that, drive for 20 min to where we are staying, and sleep for maybe six hours before getting up to perform. Um.. Good thing we get a nap time tomorrow between shows. This place looks like magic. It’s so beautiful, it’s rather surreal.

Come if you can. 11:30am and 8:30pm showtimes, sat and sun. Citrus Heights, the address is up on VespertineCircus.com under “tickets” - shows are donation-only. -Jezebel

Further battle negotiations, potty humor style. This, 20 minutes before meeting in a Safeway parking lot and alpha car coming at the terrorists with water balloons and water-guns, jumping out the moon roof. A rather epic battle ensued.

Clown-Car to Clown-Car warfare, over the long drive. Comical typo.
